Klubbas

Klubbas is an EP by Sámi electronic artist iDJa. The release combines influences from Berlin’s club scene, Sámi traditions and field recordings from Northern Norway.

The opening track Áhčis is based on a joik given to him by his father, restored from an old recording and paired with percussive sounds from duodji. The EP also includes Land Back, which uses hard-hitting beats and natural field recordings to reflect on industrial pressure in Sámi areas, and Ária, a collaboration with mezzo-soprano Adrian Angelico that merges opera with electronic production.

Other tracks draw on personal experiences, small festival environments and themes linked to belonging on the dancefloor. The visual artwork, created by photographer Tina Dubrovsky, relates to mineral extraction in Sápmi.
